How to join Wikimedia Space

As you’ve noticed, you are free to read and browse Wikimedia Space without creating an account. However, to post content and interact with others, you’ll need to create one.

The Wikimedia Space login currently works with Phabricator, Wikimedia’s task management platform. This is a stopgap solution while we implement proper Wikimedia login.

Have a Phabricator account already?

Great. Hit the “Log In” or “Sign Up” button, which will ask you to authorize Wikimedia Space to use your Phabricator credentials. You can then create your Wikimedia Space account.

Don’t have a Phabricator account yet?

No problem! Hit the “Log In” or “Sign Up” button, select Wikimedia Phabricator, and create a Phabricator account by selecting “Log In or Register MediaWiki”.

Once you create and verify the email associated with your Phabricator account, hit the “Log in” or “Sign Up” button again on Wikimedia Space, which will ask you to authorize Wikimedia Space to use your Phabricator credentials. You can then create your Wikimedia Space account.

Wikimedia Space: Discuss and Blog

Logging in through Phabricator will give you full access to the Discuss section of Wikimedia Space, run on Discourse software. To propose stories in the Blog section, which runs on WordPress, just select “Log in with Discourse” there and :sparkles:

Please note: we have identified a bug preventing account creation in certain circumstances. Try the workaround explained below.

I seem to be the first non-WMF user to register.

If you are still encountering this problem, we believe that it is because you clicked the “Login with Discourse” link at space.wmflabs.org before having a Discourse account. While we fix this problem, here is a workaround:

First, create your account using this link:

https://discuss-space.wmflabs.org/login

If you still get the loop when clicking this link, the problem is that your current browser session will prevent the registration of your new account. For this reason, you need to get rid of this browser session. How?

Completely restarting your browser (not leaving tabs or windows open) might be enough. If not, you can try another browser (i.e. if you have Firefox and Chrome), or even the browser in your mobile phone.

Once you have an account, there will be no more loops, and you can click the “Login with Discourse” link whenever you want to submit a blog post.
