Six million articles in English Wikipedia

“There are currently 5,990,423 articles on English Wikipedia.
If we continue at the current rate, there are 16 days until we reach 6 million articles.” (Sometime in January 2020)

FYI, here’s the page from the 5 million articles achievement, on 1 November 2015.

I wish the community speeds up a bit to make it happen on the Wikipedia Day.

It is funny that several years ago people were seriously discussing whether the English Wikipedia would ever reach 5M (and then 5.5M, and then 6M) articles due to the flattening of the curve. I hope it is clear now that at this point we are still very far from the saturation (even taking into account that some articles should be best merged into lists).

Hi @Ymblanter, yes, that’s very true. Given that there is a large accumulation of current and recurrent events, newly released films and songs, and many living people who become notable (mostly sportspeople, actors and singers) every year, it is very unlikely that we will ever really face the problem of saturation. We might be running out of new science-related topics but there is still a lot that keeps the project growing permanently.

It seems that it is just a matter of hours now

Just 127 left, unless some deletion campaign starts.
